Who is this route for?
The work visa for qualified professionals is one of the main routes for third-country nationals who have an eligible vocational or academic qualification and will work in qualified employment in Germany. Whether your profession is regulated and how your qualification is assessed can affect the application.
Check more than the salary
Review the job title, duties, working hours and start date, not only compensation. Authorities may assess whether the employment and conditions fit the residence route. In regulated professions, a professional licence may also be required.
Prepare documents before the offer arrives
Collect your passport, degree, transcripts, employment documents and any recognition or comparability evidence early. Health insurance is also essential for entry and residence.
Arrival is not the end of the process
After entering Germany, you generally need to complete the residence-permit process with the responsible foreigners authority for a longer stay. Appointment availability differs by city, so begin the local process soon after arrival.
Best approach: identify the correct residence route first, then align the job offer and documentation with that route.
Where do you actually stand?
Answer a few questions to see which residence route fits your profile — or talk it through with a consultant.
